Our Services

TSPN is eager to connect with you! We thrive on networking with and supporting coaches, athletic directors, players, parents, and fans who yearn for sport programs that have a clear philosophy and intentional leadership. There is no better way to do this than to meet you in person and share our mission and ideas with you and your staff through speaking engagements.

Coaching Coaches

“The very first use of the word ‘coach’ in the English occurred in the 1500’s to refer to a particular kind of carriage . . . hence the root meaning of the verb ‘to coach’ . . . to convey a valued person from where he or she was to where he or she wanted to be.”*

Is it any different today that we as coaches transport young people of precious value (especially to their parents) and take them from where they are to where they would like to go?  Coaching must be about more than the outcome of a contest.  It’s about a journey.  A journey to help young people get to where they want to go.

Billy Graham said, “One coach will impact more young people in a year than the average person does in a lifetime . . .”  This statement begs the question, “So, who’s coaching your coaches?”

TSPN’s Coaching Coaches service is designed for those who are in sport leadership positions of influence.  This service pairs a TSPN representative with your team to provide training through interactive workshops, philosophy presentations, discussion forums, and Q & A sessions.

Research Findings

Using the Contesting Orientations Scale (COS), TSPN has collected and analyzed data on contesting theory and competitive philosophy.  Findings from this research are quite revealing about the culture of competitive sport and the winning-at-any-cost mindset.

TSPN would be glad to share with you conclusions from our research and assist you in evaluating the culture of your program.  Using the COS to survey your coaching staff, athletes, and sport parents, we can identify strengths and weakness in your program.  We can reinforce the strengths and advise ways in which you can shore up the weaknesses.  These findings will help you change your culture in a positive way and get you on track with your stated mission.

Guest Lectures

TSPN is equipped to provide well-trained representatives with advanced degrees to speak at the undergraduate level for various college courses.  Topics including sport leadership, philosophy, psychology, and ethics can be customized to fit the scope of your course.

Sessions on servant leadership and effective decision-making are a great fit for courses in sport management and administration.

Lectures on contesting theory and competitive philosophy using data from TSPN’s research findings are a great fit for courses in coaching, sport psychology, sport sociology, and sport research methodology.

Consulting

Our advisory role involves observing and evaluating your sport program regarding mission, purpose, and philosophy.  Essentially, we help you answer the question, “Why do we have sports?”.

This is usually done by meeting with various leaders in your organization and reaches into community recreation programs, youth sports, interscholastic sports, club sports, sports academies and collegiate sports programs.

A sport program without mission lacks direction.  TSPN’s consultants will help your organization evaluate and determine your mission and assist you in moving in the right direction.  An effective sport program that makes a lasting impact on young athletes is more concerned about the journey (process) than the destination (outcome).  TSPN is available to accompany you along the journey.

Training Sessions

Sessions are offered for coaches in youth sport programs as well as for interscholastic and intercollegiate coaches.  Topics generally include reasons why coaches coach.   We help coaches get beyond the X’s and O’s to the Y’s of coaching.
